From May 13, 2019 – May 19, 2019 we are praying and fasting 12 hours per day (6am – 6pm) only drinking water. Of course, if someone needs to eat to take their medication, they should do so.
The areas of focus for this fast will be discipline, commitment to Christ, and His purpose for our lives. It is based on Luke 22:54 – 62 when Peter denied Jesus. Each day, one principle from this passage will serve as the focus of our fast.
Day 4: May 16, 2019
After a little over 3 years of walking with Jesus, Peter still denied knowing Him when Jesus was on trial.
Luke 22: 54 They arrested Jesus, and led him away, and brought him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed far behind them. 55 After the soldiers started a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat together, Peter sat with them.
This shows that if you know God, you really are never alone, even during your trials.
Physically, Jesus was on trial for His life. Spiritually, Jesus was on trial for the lives of the world. Jesus’ purpose was from God and our eternal salvation rested on Him remaining focused to finish His assignment. This meant He had to die, be buried and victoriously rise again on the third day.
After Jesus was arrested, everyone who was connected to Him scattered in fear, or possibly even grief. Peter, the only follower who remained near Jesus during the period after his arrest, was accused three times of being a disciple. He denied knowing Jesus each time. While it was disappointing to Jesus, it was not a surprise. He told Peter that this would happen. Jesus’ relationship with God allowed Him to remain confident despite being arrested by the soldiers, abandoned by the disciples and denied by one of His closest followers. Jesus understood that God would never leave Him.
There will be times when you appear to be lonely, but as long you have God, you are never alone. Please do not mistake God’s silence during your trials for neglect. It is when God is silent that we are encouraged to remember His spoken and written Words we have previously received. As long as we have God and His Word, we are never alone.
Pray today:
1. That you develop and/or maintain a healthy appetite for The Word of God,
2. That God’s Word be the standard by which you live, and
3. That your words and actions be a constant reminder to others that God is always present with His children.
After you read and pray throughout the day, be sure to take at least 5 minutes to listen for God to respond. Keep a journal to record what you hear Him say.
