From May 13, 2019 – May 19, 2019 we are praying and fasting 12 hours per day (6am – 6pm) only drinking water. Of course, if you need to eat to take medication, please do so.
The areas of focus for this fast will be discipline, commitment to Christ, and His purpose for our lives. It is based on Luke 22:54 – 62 when Peter denied Jesus. Each day, one principle from this passage will serve as the focus of our fast.
Day 3: May 15, 2019
After a little over 3 years of walking with Jesus, Peter still denied knowing Him when Jesus was on trial.
Luke 22:59 About an hour later, another man insisted, “Certainly this man was with him, because he is from Galilee, too.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” At once, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
This shows that there are some trials you will have to face without the assistance of other people.
The night in which Jesus was arrested and taken to court was not over, yet Peter had already denied knowing Him and being His disciple three times. Jesus was born so that He could die and pay the penalty that was required because of sin. His death, burial and ultimate resurrection provides everyone with the opportunity to have eternal salvation.
Even though one of His closest disciples denied knowing Him, Jesus was not dissuaded from His assignment. Why not? Because Jesus understood that even though He was on trial for Peter (and the rest of the world), He was not on trial with Peter (or the rest of the world). This was a trial that He would have to face by Himself.
There will be some tests that we will have to experience, and pass, without the assistance of others. Some of our tests will be financial, physical, emotional, mental and yes, spiritual. This is not to say that others will abandon us. This does mean, however, that others can only go with us so far in some tests and trials. It is a blessing to know that God is with us, even when people are unwilling or unable to assist. So while we may have to face some trials without the assistance of other people; if we have God, we are never alone.
Pray today:
1. For the power to stand and openly represent God in every test, trial and temptation you may face,
2. For a heart that is full of love and not bitterness towards those who you think “should stand with me” during your tests, trials and temptations, yet they are not present, and
3. That you remain faith-forward focused on your kingdom assignment and purpose from God.
After you read and pray throughout the day, be sure to take at least 5 minutes to listen for God to respond. Keep a journal to record what you hear Him say.
